What is a Makerspace?

A makerspace is a collaborative workspace for making, learning, exploring and sharing that features tools and materials that inspire creativity. From simple building materials like cardboard to high tech devices like 3D printers, makerspaces can foster a “maker mindset” and the exploration of individual interests. These spaces also help build critical 21st century skills in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM). They provide hands-on learning, help with critical thinking skills and even boost self-confidence.  (Source: https://www.makerspaces.com/what-is-a-makerspace/)

What we're working with so far...

Late last year we received a grant from SD61’s Pathways & Partnerships to purchase items requested by Rogers teachers to facilitate student building, creativity, and imaginative exploration in our school. Here are some of the resources we purchased to help us get started!

The Tool Trolley
A recent addition to the collection is the Tool Trolley provided by Pathways & Partnerships. Several of our Rogers staff have completed training on the use of the tools and have engaged students in some basic carpentry projects.
