Strawberry Vale Mural Project

Twenty-four years ago, as the current Strawberry Vale Elementary building was being constructed, the school celebrated it's 100th birthday. In honour of this occasion, a mural was painted depicting each era and building of the school's long history. In Spring 2017, Mr. Richey, Dean Simpson, and Francisco Munoz pitched the idea of a new Strawberry Vale Mural to staff and students, one that would be representative of the past 20 years of our school's history and of today's school community.

Well, after a year of much thought, creativity, and hard work, the new Strawberry Vale mural is complete! A huge thank you to our fabulous artists and staff members, Dean & Francisco, who devoted a great deal of time and talent to representing our school's history and students' idea on two huge 4' x 8' canvases. The new murals compliment the original (1997) mural beautifully. Come by the library to check them out!

Prior to submitting their own ideas for the mural, students explored the nearly 125 year history of Strawberry Vale School.
Check this out for yourself by heading to the
History of Strawberry Vale School page!
After exploring this history, students were asked:
"Over 125 years, Strawberry Vale School has meant a lot to many different people. What does Strawberry Vale School mean to you?"

Progress Reports and Parallel Activities

Over the winter and spring of 2018, classes checked in regularly with Mr. Richey, who highlighted aspects of the work being done by Dean & Francisco and engaged students in some mural-related artwork of their own. During these sessions, students had the opportunity to delve into the creative process and learn about what it takes to bring a big project like this to completion.
